Testimonials & Media
This is one of many examples of how our efforts help people in our community:
“ . . . Erika is young and pretty. She has a lovely smile. She has sparkling brown eyes that twinkle when she looks at her children. Erika also has cancer. Only 25 years old, Erika was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in March 2012. Her two young daughters, ages 2 and 6, are a source of great joy. Lack of money has been a problem for Erika and her family for a while since her construction-worker husband was injured on the job and became unable to work. Although he receives some disability benefits, money is tight for the family. Thanks to generous help from Sole Ryeders & Friends, the grant from Cancer Support Team’s Financial Assistance Fund helped buy ordinary things…things that are only ordinary when they are in abundant supply…things like laundry detergent, school lunches and the nutritious food the CST nurse recommended for Erika. Life is difficult at times as Erika undergoes an especially rigorous regime of chemotherapy. Nausea plagues her for a week after each round of chemo. She worries about her husband and her daughters. Still, nausea, worry and cancer didn’t stop Erika from being grateful for a gift…”
“I have lived in the US for just a year and lived in London and Australia for 10 years each and never felt as taken care of by any community as I do through my connections with Sole Ryeders”
“I’m not ready to go home yet. I don’t want this to end”
“This was a life-changing experience”
“I feel like our team is a family”
“I hadn’t really found my place in the community until I joined this team”
“I’ve made so many new friends through this experience. People I never would have met had I not been a part of the Sole Ryeders & Friends”
“This was one of the best experiences…of my entire life.”

Note from Debbie Nye of Rye, New York
Dear Supporters,
My personal journey through breast cancer helped me to discover that I was not just another medical case.
It revealed that I was indeed a fortunate beneficiary of all your donated money, time, effort, and self.
The child who pledges their allowance, the corporate employee who convinces the company to match thousands, the mothers who plan a wine tasting, and the high school students who run a car wash…you all make a difference.
I was witness to it.
From the hand sewn pillow given to me to help cushion a car seatbelt to the state of the art digital mammograghy system that detected my cancer-they are the results of your dedication to this cause.
There are valuable experts, encouraging staff, and passionate souls along every step of this voyage. The medical community has come so far in such a short time and is 110% supportive of breast cancer issues.
And speaking of communities, there is ours…an absolutely incredible place to reside.
I (along with many others) have been blown away by the tidal wave of generosity from family, friends, and acquaintances.
With enormous gratitude,
Debbie Nye
